With more and more meetings online the demands for better presentations have increased. But how do you reach out to the audience? This blog post is based on our latest podcast episode where you can learn more about creating compelling presentations with Richard Goring, director of Brightcarbon. You’ll get useful advice on how to use PowerPoint and how to get the most out of your presentations.

Why do you need a compelling presentation?

Corona has speeded up the digital transformation and led to more digital interaction. For some a challenging task that requires rethinking and changing their methods of reaching out, for example with the help of compelling presentations.

This will mean that your audience will not be in the same room but remember that your mission is to still inform about the message you want to convey as if they were. Your main task is to engage the audience in the subject, because you can’t control your audience behaviour during the ongoing presentation. For example, you can’t control whether the audience get coffee or answer emails while you talk, but you can get them so interested in your presentation that they no longer want to get their coffee or answer emails, to do so, here are five steps that can help you create a compelling presentation to your audience:

5 steps to do a compelling presentation

  1. Storytelling – Have a compelling and engaging story
  2. Visual Sequences – Chunk the content up into digestible pieces
  3. Visuals & Animations – To ease up the information and make it more accessible
  4. Design for a smaller screen – consider that the output is small
  5. Active engaging points – include interaction such as polls and questions

By combining these five steps you’re creating a compelling presentation that can inform your audience about the message you want to convey. The same steps apply for creating a powerful sales presentation except that you need to be a little more specific. In this case it is important that you add key reason to think of why someone should use your solution and what differentiates it from your competitors.
